A man was shot in the head in the parking lot of a Thornton Home Depot on Thursday afternoon — one of two apparent road rage incidents in the metro area.

The wounded man, a 33-year-old from Northglenn, was taken to a hospital. His condition was unknown but he was conscious, according to Officer Matt Barnes.

Police said two suspects fled in a black Toyota pickup truck with a brush guard on the front and possible damage to the front bumper.

The shooting happened about 2:30 p.m. on the 10000 block of Grant Street.

Police say they believe one of the vehicles cut off the other near the entrance to the parking lot. After the victim parked his car, the two occupants of the pickup walked over to him.

Words were exchanged, and the pickup passenger fired a single shot, police said.

The wounded man was able to tell police what happened. Numerous witnesses were taken to police headquarters to give their statements. Home Depot employees were not allowed to talk to reporters.

In a separate road rage incident Thursday morning in Greenwood Village, a suspect fired “multiple” gunshots at another vehicle, but no one was injured.

The suspect’s vehicle and another vehicle were merging onto southbound Interstate 25 from Interstate 225 at about 7:20 a.m. when one cut the other off. As the two approached the area between Orchard and Arapahoe roads, the suspect rolled down his window, displayed a semi-automatic gun and fired.

The shots struck the passenger side of the victim’s vehicle but did not cause any injuries, according to police.

Police say the suspect vehicle is a mid-1990s black Honda Accord with no license plate and after-market chrome rims.

“The vehicle height has possibly been modified to a low street racer level,” police said.
