Authorities in Summit County are investigating what they say is a murder-suicide on Tuesday that left two people dead.

Sheriff’s deputies found a man and woman dead on Tuesday night at a home in the Wildernest subdivision in an incorporated part of the county near Silverthorne. Investigators believe the murder-suicide happened on Tuesday, according to Taneil Ilano, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

The deputies were called out to the home at about 9 p.m. on a welfare check when they found the bodies, the sheriff’s office said in a news release Wednesday.

“Both deceased individuals were local residents,” the office said. “Multiple shots were fired within the home and a firearm was recovered at the scene.”

The sheriff’s office said next of kin are being notified and that autopsies have been ordered for the two people. Authorities have not identified the man or woman.

“This case is under an active investigation,” the release said.

Officials said additional information was not immediately available.
