A helicopter crashed near the Erie airport just after noon today, killing more than one person, emergency officials confirmed.
The Weld County Coroner’s Office, Erie Police Department and Mountain View Fire Rescue have been dispatched to the scene.
Mountain View spokeswoman Amy Tallent said there were multiple fatalities in the crash, but declined to be more specific.
It is not known yet what caused the crash, or who was on board the aircraft.
All air traffic has been rerouted to Longmont Municipal Airport until further notice, according to Erie police officials.
The National Transportation Safety Board has been notified of the crash, according to police.
One woman who witnessed the crash, Kassandra Davis, said she saw an explosion from her deck.
“I turned around and was yelling for my dad, ‘Oh my God, oh my God, it’s coming down,'” Davis said near the scene of the crash. “I thought it was going to come down on our house. I didn’t know where it was going to land. I looked back and I just saw it come down on the ground and explode.”
