Aurora police officers shot and wounded a man who refused to follow their orders to drop a gun on Sunday night.
Police responded to reports of a intoxicated man “waving a gun” around at the Del Norte Bar at 9655 Montview Blvd., at 10:37 p.m., Officer Judy Lutkin said Monday.
He continued to brandish the gun after officers arrived and told him to drop it, Lutkin said. She said it is not yet clear whether he was pointing the weapon at police when they opened fire.
He was taken to a hospital with multiple gunshot wounds, she said. Monday afternoon he was listed in serious but stable condition, according to police. They are not releasing his identity because the matter is still being investigated.
As a matter of standard procedure, the officer who shot him has been placed on administrative leave with pay pending a review of the incident. The involved officer is a 13-year veteran of the police department.
Anyone with additional information regarding this incident is asked to call Det. Todd Frederickson at 303-739-6106.
