Civic Center event will go on, rain or shine

Saturday-Sunday. Cold, wet weather has torpedoed more than few events around Denver in recent weeks, but much like last year, this weekend’s 29th Cinco de Mayo festival in Civic Center park will happen rain or shine, according to Andrea Barela, development director at event sponsor NEWSED CDC. The sprawling Mexican-culture celebration, which is looking to draw about 400,000, will feature a Saturday morning parade with 30 entries, a taco-eating contest, chihuahua races, a quinceañera fashion show, live music, drinks, 250 vendors and a Mother’s Day-themed mariachi stage on Sunday. Free general admission each day, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. May 7-8. cincodemayodenver.com.
