Mandatory evacuations have been issued in central Huerfano County where a wildfire is burning four miles west of La Veta.
A reverse emergency notification ordering residents to evacuate was sent out around 3 p.m., said Laurie Cordova, spokeswoman for the Office of Emergency Management in Huerfano County. The orders were sent to about 200 phones to residences located northeast of the fire.
The wildfire, which officials are calling the Klikus Fire, has burned an estimated 45 to 50 acres. The fire, which is burning in the Middlecreek area, is currently being pushed by the wind in burning in a wooded area.
La Veta is about 16 miles west of Walsenburg. The fire is burning south of County Road 440 and west of County Road 450.
No injures have been reported and no structures have been destroyed. Still, structures on the north side of County Road 440 are still a concern for crews.
The Red Cross has been called to the area and residents can go to a shelter at the Huerfano Community Center, located at Russell Avenue and 10th Street in Walsenburg.
The Huerfano County Fire, La Veta fire, Stonewall Fire Department and Costilla County Fire are working on the blaze.
