A 28-year-old suspect was arrested Wednesday night in Englewood after police say he killed a 54-year-old man in a hit-and-run.

Police were called out about 9:30 to the area of West Belleview Avenue and South Federal Boulevard where the man was found dead.

“Officers were able to located debris on the roadway from the vehicle which fled the scene,” police said in a news release. “Officers were then able to use this debris to come up with a make (and) model of the suspect vehicle.”

Investigators canvassed the nearby neighborhood and found a vehicle linked to the hit-and-run.

“Officers contacted the residents of where the vehicle was parked, and spoke with a male and female,” the release said. “The male suspect, a 28-year-old, admitted to driving the vehicle as well as hitting the pedestrian, and then leaving the scene of the accident.”

Police say the suspect also admitted to drinking alcohol and “displayed other signs of intoxication.”

The suspect was booked into the Arapahoe County jail on suspicion of several charges, including vehicular homicide.

Authorities did not release the name of either man.
