A man arrested in Texas on drug charges has been connected to a 20-year-old sex assault case in Denver through DNA evidence, prosecutors said Friday.
Donald R. Shores, 56, has been charged in Denver with felony aggravated sexual assault and a crime of violence, according to a Denver District Attorney’s Office news release.
Shore is suspected of assaulting and raping a 67-year-old woman on Sept. 6, 1994, in the 2000 block of Colorado Boulevard, the release said.
The victim died of cancer in 2000, but DNA evidence collected in the past now ties Shores to the crime, the release said.
Shores was arrested in January in Texas on a drug charge. He is in custody and faces extradition to Colorado. His bond has been set at $250,000.
