Mesa Verde National Park and the region that surrounds it are among America’s most scenic places.

Twenty-two artists captured it well for the oils, acrylics, watercolors and sculptures they created for Rims to Ruins, a cocktail reception, exhibit and sale held at Kent Denver School.

Judy Grant and Mary Willis chaired this benefit for the Mesa Verde Foundation. Net income is still being tallied, said Grant, who also chairs the foundation’s board of trustees, but it is expected to be the most successful in the event’s three-year history.

The day before Rims to Ruins, Grant and her husband, Newell, hosted a luncheon at Cherry Hills Country Club to better acquaint their 75 guests with the lives and paintings of two of the featured artists, Joe Anna Arnett and Jim Asher.

Other artists whose work was admired — and purchased — by the 200-plus guests at Rims to Ruins included Buffalo Kaplinski, Veryl Goodnight, William Acheff, John Poon and Mian Situ.

The Mesa Verde Foundation is headed by Margaret Deane Gray and is the philanthropic partner of Mesa Verde National Park, one of the 12 original UNESCO World Heritage Sites and home to thousands of ancient artifacts from ancestral Puebloan tribes, including 600 cliff dwellings and other remnants that give visitors a glimpse into the history of an ancient people.
