Denver Comic Con has announced on Twitter that Star Wars icon Carrie Fisher will attend the 2016 iteration of the convention.
Fisher, who reprised her role as Leia Organa — this time as a general in the Resistance — in last year’s “Star Wars: Episode VII — The Force Awakens,” is a major get for Denver’s fast-growing celebration of pop culture skewing toward comics, sci-fi and fantasy. She is known as a bit of a wild card in live settings and had multiple memorable televised moments in the lead-up to the release of “The Force Awakens,” including what “Good Morning America” host Amy Robach called “one of the most entertaining interviews, ever,” and a little foul language on the red carpet of the premiere.
She also won praise for a tweet addressing people commenting on her physical appearance in the film and in interviews, writing, “Please stop debating about whether or not I aged well… My BODY hasn’t aged as well as I have,” adding a bit more crude language to round out the tweet.
Other already announced Denver Comic Con 2016 guests include Marvel Comics legend Stan Lee, “Gotham” star Robin Lord Taylor and comics industry veteran and historian Trina Robbins, who was on a “flash panel” assembled by attendees and embraced by organizers last year in response to the lack of women on an official panel titled “Women in Comics: Creators and Characters.”
This year’s Denver Comic Con runs June 17-19 at the Colorado Convention Center. Tickets are on sale now at denvercomiccon.com.
