The child who was pulled out of Chatfield Reservoir on Saturday evening and rushed to a hospital in critical condition died several hours later, according to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office.

Department spokesman Sgt. Ron Hanavan said a call came in around 5:35 p.m. that a child was in need of assistance. He had no information as to how the child, who has not been identified, ended up in the reservoir.

But Hanavan said multiple agencies responded and the child was recovered near the southeast banks of the reservoir.

A dispatcher with Littleton Fire Rescue said a dive team with his agency located the child and pulled the child from the water.

Chatfield Reservoir, which is in Chatfield State Park, lies south of C-470 in Douglas County.
