Thunderstorms over Colorado’s northeastern plains could be severe Friday afternoon, unleashing hail, winds up to 70 mph and possibly a few tornadoes.
A tornado warning was issued until 4 p.m. for parts of Cheyenne and Kit Carson counties.
A severe thunderstorm warning exists for parts of Kit Carson County until 3:45 p.m. and hail up to 2-inches in diameter was reported south of Burlington.
The stormy weather in northeastern Colorado could produce heavy downpours, with some locations getting up to two inches of rain in less than an hour, according to the National Weather Service.
In the foothills and mountains some areas could receive heavy rains Friday as well, with up to one inch in 30 minutes, the weather service reports. There could be minor flooding in some locations, especially wildland fire burn areas.
The stormy weather should move west to east, off the mountains and over the plains as the day progresses.
In Denver showers and thunderstorms are likely, mainly after 4 p.m., and the high temperature in the city should hit 81 degrees under mostly cloudy skies. The chance for precipitation in Denver is 60 percent.
