Interview with Jeff Atencio, owner/brewer
Q: How did you get involved in this business?
A: I have been brewing beer for about 27 years, and during that time I’ve always dreamed of opening a brewery. After visiting almost every brewery in the region, I felt that being a part of this industry was something that would be rewarding both professionally and personally. And, my wife finally said yes.
Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?
A: We are serving up some good beers in an inviting atmosphere, and the talk is centered around making beer. Home brewers are welcome to talk up their favorite styles and tour our setup. We also love teaching individuals new to the craft beer world about the process and introduce them to all the different styles of beer. 3 Freaks is a laid back neighborhood brewery located in Beer Valley Colorado.
Q: What do you like best about your line of work?
A: I love talking to customers about beer. I love introducing people to the craft beer experience. I love to brew beer.
Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?
A: Telling everyone where we’re located, and meeting as many requests for beer styles as possible.
Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:
A: The brewery is named after my children. I have three beautiful kids that got used to me referring to them as freaks. We built upon the definition of a freak, identifying a freak as a person who is enthusiastic about beer. We need more freaks in this world.
