A greater one-horned rhino at Denver Zoo on Thursday morning passed through an open gate and wandered into a yard occupied by staff and volunteers.

Officials say they are thoroughly reviewing the incident, in which no one was injured.

“Those working in the yard left immediately and safely to a behind-the-scenes area, closing the gate behind them,” the zoo said in a news release. “Zoo guests were safe at all times, as the animal never left its enclosure.”

The two-ton rhino, Bandhu, appeared surprised by the people in the yard, the zoo said. The animal was moved to an indoor enclosure.

Bandhu is known for having an exceptionally calm and sweet demeanor.

Officials say the situation, which staff train for, was quickly resolved.
