Charges have been filed against two men accused of being involved in an August three-vehicle hit-and-run wreck that killed a motorcyclist, Aurora police said Tuesday.

Dustin James Beers, 25, of Centennial, faces charges of vehicular homicide, leaving the scene of an accident involving death, driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs or both, reckless driving, failure to yield and driving with a canceled license.

Paden Alan Clements, 21, of Wheat Ridge, faces charges of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, careless driving resulting in death, failure to yield and driving with a suspended license.

Derek Dahl, 41, was riding a motorcycle Aug. 25 near the intersection of East Mississippi Avenue and South Moline Street when Beers allegedly made a left turn in front of him, according to police. Dahl “laid down” his motorcycle to avoid hitting the truck and was run over by Clements, police say, who was following close behind.

Clements and Beers were driving pickup trucks and traveling together, police said.

“Both trucks stopped and their occupants got out and looked at the rider,” Aurora police said in a news release. “A passenger called 911 and then all except one passenger got back into the trucks and left the scene.”

Dahl was taken to the hospital where he died. Police said Beers and Clements “have been cooperative with the investigation.”

Investigators located the suspects and the vehicles they believe were involved in the crash after a Medina Alert was issued, the release said.
