Prosecutors from Denver District Attorney Mitch Morrissey’s office have formally charged a 32-year-old man with attempted first-degree murder for allegedly shooting at two men in 2014.

Adrian Lomeli-Casillas allegedly fired at two men Feb. 2, 2014, near 47th Avenue and Brighton Boulevard.

The charges are the result of work by a Denver police detective working at ATF’s Crime Gun Intelligence Center.

The officer was able to tie an unrelated 2015 shooting in Colorado Springs to the attempted murder case in Denver with evidence in both shootings, according to a Friday news release issued by Lynn Kimbrough, Morrissey’s spokeswoman.

Ballistic evidence was entered into the National Integrated Ballistic Network, and there was a match with a bullet fired by a gun in November 2015.

The Crime Gun Intelligence Center in Denver worked with ATF’s Colorado Springs Gun Task Force and the Colorado Springs Police Department Gang Unit to identify Lomeli-Casillas as the suspect in both shootings, according to Kimbrough.

Lomeli-Casillas is in custody in Colorado Springs.

He has a court appearance scheduled in Denver county court for April 12. He will be formally advised of the charges against him at that time.
