Interview with Jared Vasold, managing partner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: During travels throughout North America working in the leadership industry, I began to notice a discrepancy between what family-oriented establishments said and did. Every family fun center I walked into would have violent video games, people stumbling around drunk and other happenings that did not align with what I considered to be a culture of family values. As I planned to open a family fun center, I came across family-fun industry veteran Greg Gallavan and we hit it off. As Christian entrepreneurs with similar values and interests, we agreed to combine our skills and open a family fun establishment focusing on action-oriented attractions and family values.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: Miner’s Maze Adventureland is a unique Colorado small business with a flair for leadership development, action-oriented fun and family values. With a year-over-year staff retention rate of more than 85 percent, Miner’s Maze team members are also well-equipped to answer questions, develop relationships with guests and administer safe and professional operations. Unlike other fun-oriented establishments, Miner’s Maze Adventureland also offers retirement savings plans for long-term staff and many other creative incentive programs to encourage personal and professional development. While Miner’s Maze Adventureland offers an array of interactive hands-on attractions, like the Water Walkerz, Bungee Trampolines, Rio Golden Railroad, Miner’s Maze and a 25-element Rocky Mountain Ropes course, another distinguishing factor is the professionally facilitated teambuilding I facilitate.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: We are blessed to work in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains only 15 minutes from downtown Denver and feel humbled that nearly 100,000 guests will trust Miner’s Maze Adventureland for their action-oriented family fun this season.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: With a small team and marketing budget, we are challenged to make a splash in the huge pool of family entertainment competitors.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: Lots of memories are made at Miner’s Maze Adventureland every day. On a personal front, Greg Gallavan has built more than 60 giant mazes for family-fun amusement businesses around the world, and I have a passion for serving aging adults by facilitating dynamic current events workshops in senior living communities. Our mission is to provide an engaging and interactive culture of fun where we “create smiles and make memories.”
