Marijuana researcher Sue Sisley in line for $2M Colo. grant, PTSD study

PHOENIX — A fired University of Arizona professor is awaiting final approval on a $2 million grant from the state of Colorado to continue her research of marijuana’s effects on veterans with post-traumatic stress disorder.

The Arizona Republic reported Wednesday that Sue Sisley says she can now pursue her study without relying on an Arizona university lab.

(Clarification, updated Nov. 28 at 3:40 p.m.: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated the status of the grant. The grant is awaiting final approval by the Colorado Board of Health.)

Sisley says the study would be split between participating veterans in Arizona and at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

The Colorado marijuana research grants await a final approval by the state Board of Health in December. Research could begin early next year.

UA officials said in a letter in June that Sisley was let go because funding for part of the work she did with the medical school was running out and other factors.

Sisley says her termination was because of her connection to a recall attempt of a lawmaker who killed legislation that could have funded her research.
