CASTLE ROCK — There is enough evidence to try a 28-year-old man charged with attempted murder for allegedly carjacking three vehicles and leading police on a a rush-hour chase from Longmont to Lone Tree, a Douglas County judge has ruled.
Ryan Cole Stone appeared in court on Thursday for a preliminary hearing. Douglas County Judge Susanna Meissner-Cutler found there was enough evidence to let the case go to trial.
Stone faces multiple charges, including attempted murder and kidnapping. If convicted, Stone could face more than 96 years in prison.
An arraignment hearing has been scheduled in December. Stone is expected to enter a plea at that time.
Stone was arrested in March after an hour-long pursuit through the metro area that reached speeds of 100 mph.
The chase began after Stone allegedly stole a vehicle in Longmont with a 4-year-old boy in the back seat. Stone is also accused of carjacking two other vehicles while a news helicopter followed the chase.
The attempted-murder charge stems from hitting and seriously injuring Colorado State Patrol Trooper Bellaman Hee.
Other charges against Stone include assault, leaving the scene of an accident, robbery, vehicular eluding and aggravated motor theft. He also faces two counts of child abuse.
