By a narrow 7-6 vote, the Denver City Council gave final approval Monday night to a bill aimed at increasing the amount of affordable housing in Denver.
The final tally was the same as last week’s first reading of the bill. The measure, which would increase the number of low-cost housing units in the city, fostered a lengthy debate that lasted more than three hours, as proponents, opponents and the council members themselves argued for and against its merits.
On Monday, the arguments weren’t as vigorous. An amendment by Councilman Albus Brooks aimed at insuring that more of the units would be built in downtown neighborhoods passed 12-1.
