A woman arrested in connection with a Denver hit-and-run early Sunday that left a 24-year-old man dead is being held at the city’s downtown jail in lieu of $50,000 bond, jail records show.

Brenda Rosales-Montoya is being held on suspicion of recklessly driving during a vehicular homicide and leaving the scene of an accident involving death, records say.

She is accused of fatally injuring the pedestrian, who has not been identified.

The hit-and-run happened at about 2:15 a.m. near the intersection of West Colfax Avenue and Fox Street. Police said Rosales-Montoya was tracked down and arrested several hours later.

Police records show the man was pronounced dead at the scene and witnesses told investigators the man was crossing mid-block when he was hit.

Several people saw the hit-and-run, including one person who estimated Rosales-Montoya was traveling 60 mph in a 30 mph zone when she hit the man, according to an arrest affidavit.

Another witness followed Rosales-Montoya and recorded her license plate number.

Rosales-Montoya was contacted at a home in Federal Heights where she admitted to hitting the pedestrian and fleeing the scene, the affidavit says.

Police declined to release further details in the case, saying their investigation is ongoing. Rosales-Montoya appeared in court on Monday morning.
