After a robbery on the light rail, Denver’s Auraria campus police are warning students and employees to be vigilant.
At about 1 a.m. Sunday, a woman had her backpack snatched on the light rail at the Colfax Avenue at Aurariastop, said Michael Phibbs, Auraria Campus Police Department chief of police.
The robber got off at that stop and fled onto the campus. The victim tried to chase the suspect, but could not keep up, police said.
The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall, according to a notice sent out to students and staff. Campus and RTD police have not found the suspect.
Phibbs said Denver police will assume control of the investigation.
A warning was sent out to students, staff and employees describing the crime and providing resources and safety tips.
“We would always encourage everybody to be vigilant and aware of their surroundings and focus a bit more on where they are and a bit less on their tablets and phones,” Phibbs said. “When you enclose yourself in those environments, you make yourself vulnerable to people who want to take advantage.”
