Work on the U.S. 6 bridges project between Knox Court and Interstate 25 will result in a six-month closure of the southbound I-25 ramp to eastbound U.S. 6, starting Friday night.
The closure is necessary because crews will shift both directions of U.S. 6 traffic onto new bridges over Bryant Street and the South Platte River. Doing so will trigger a series of impacts along the project corridor.
Lane-shifting work along the corridor also begins this weekend, starting at 10 p.m. Friday and wrapping up by 5 a.m. Monday. Other impacts include:
• Eastbound U.S. 6 will close at Sheridan Boulevard at 10 p.m. Friday and reopen about noon Saturday, according to the Colorado Department of Transportation.
• Throughout the weekend, the eastbound U.S. 6 on-ramps to I-25 will be closed while crews pave a new, temporary ramp alignment.
• All lanes of westbound U.S. 6 between Federal Boulevard and Knox Court will shift to the north. This work requires closing various lanes on westbound U.S. 6 throughout the weekend.
• There will be no access to eastbound U.S. 6 from Federal or Fifth Avenue. By Monday, westbound U.S. 6 traffic coming out of downtown Denver will be able to exit at Federal Boulevard, CDOT said.
The agency offers detours:
• During the eastbound U.S. 6 closure, drivers will exit at Sheridan Boulevard and go south to Alameda Avenue or north to Colfax Avenue.
• Eastbound U.S. 6 traffic looking to access I-25 during the weekend closure should exit at Osage Street to enter westbound Sixth Avenue.
• Federal Boulevard traffic looking to access eastbound U.S. 6 should use Alameda, Eighth or Colfax avenues to travel east.
• Southbound I-25 traffic looking to access eastbound U.S. 6 during the six-month ramp closure should exit I-25 at Eighth Avenue and follow signs to downtown.
