At least 67 people were displaced by a two-alarm fire at a Littleton senior living apartment complex Wednesday afternoon.

The estimate was provided by the Red Cross which is looking for housing and trying to secure medicines and other necessities for those displaced.

The city is also asking for donations of portable oxygen bottles. Those interested can call call 720-320-6062.

Overnight on Wednesday, Red Cross officials expect to house 43 residents.

Littleton Fire Rescue responded to the fire before noon. Through Twitter, officials were asking the residents of the Southview Place Apartments in the 5800 block of S. Windermere Street to stay on their balconies and wait for emergency personnel.

Kelli Narde, a spokeswoman for the city of Littleton, confirmed that the entire 130-unit building was evacuated through the afternoon.

According to a news release, fire officials believe the fire started in fourth floor unit of a five-story apartment building. Narde said it is too early to determine the cause.

Narde said that for Wednesday night, no one will be allowed to return to the apartment building, but firefighters are still working to determine how many, if any, residents will be allowed back in Thursday.

Red Cross officials are trying to secure a long-term shelter for residents that can’t return to their homes. Wednesday night they are moving evacuees to the Littleton United Methodist Church, 5894 South Datura Street for overnight shelter.

“We evacuated every unit because the water and the power had to be shut off and there’s significant water and fire damage,” Narde said.

About four people were transported to a hospital as a precaution, Narde said, but no injuries from the fire were reported.

A total of 12 trucks, 10 ambulances and more than 75 first responders assisted in evacuating residents from the 130-unit building.

South Metro Fire Rescue was among the neighboring agencies that assisted.
