The Broncos appeared to have found their next strength coach.

Longtime trainer Loren Landow, who works with numerous Broncos players in the offseason as well as Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey and Olympic swimmer Missy Franklin, among others, is expected to be hired to lead the Broncos’ strength program, according to an NFL source. Luke Richesson, the team’s previous strength coach of six years, was granted permission to leave a year before his contract expired to become the Houston Texans’ senior director of sports performance.

The hiring of Landow, who interviewed with the Broncos on Tuesday, is expected to be made official once he completes his pre-draft obligations. He is currently training prospects for the upcoming NFL scouting combine at his Centennial facility, Landow Performance.

Well-respected in training circles and among athletes, Landow has become a go-to for aspiring NFL players along with active and retired players, including Von Miller and Peyton Manning. In 2011, Landow became the trainer-of-choice for Broncos players when he organized workouts with Hall of Fame safety Brian Dawkins during the NFL lockout. Over the years, Landow’s clientele has grown to include not only football players, but also Major League Baseball players, Olympians and mixed martial artists.

“I love Loren and think that’s a brilliant hire,” Broncos outside linebacker Shaquil Barrett said. “He had me in the best shape of my life, literally. I felt the best I have ever felt — the fastest and the leanest.”

McCaffrey trained with Landow throughout high school, college and ahead of the 2017 NFL draft. With Landow’s help, McCaffrey put on a memorable performance at the combine — he finished among the top five in five different events — that likely boosted his draft stock. He was selected at No. 8 overall by Carolina.

“Loren is a heck of a trainer. Quickness, agility, explosion, size, everything,” McCaffrey said at the combine. “It’s helped the process just being with him. Being in altitude helps a lot. I come here and feel like I can really breath. That’s a big plus.”
