Arapahoe County jail inmate hanged himself with bed sheet, sheriff says

The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the inmate believed to have committed suicide

An inmate who was held alone in a cell at the Arapahoe County Detention Facility fashioned a noose out of a bed sheet and hanged himself Thursday night, authorities say.

The sheriff’s office has not released the name of the inmate believed to have committed suicide, according to a news release by Sheriff David Walcher’s office.

Jail deputies discovered the inmate with a noose around his neck at 10 p.m.

“Deputies immediately removed the sheet and began lifesaving efforts, which were continued by nursing staff and South Metro Fire Rescue,” the news release says.

The inmate was pronounced dead at the jail.

The inmate’s death does not appear to be suspicious, the news release says.
