Westminster hospice and home-care facility CovenantCare closing, laying off 67 employees

No reason for closure given but workers last day is May 17

The Colorado CovenantCare at Home facility in Westminster will shut down May 17 and lay off at least 67 employees, the company said.

In a statement, shared by spokesman Randy Eilts, the company said competition was to blame.

“We have been providing home health, hospice, physical therapy and rehabilitation services in the Denver metro for the last 10 years. However, with the saturated competitive market of Home Care providers in this region and the uncertainty with reimbursement rates, remaining viable as a business has become very challenging,” it said.

A notice filed with the state’s Labor Department said the facility is at 9101 Harlan St., Suite 135, according to a letter filed as part of the required Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act.

CovenantCare at Home is part of Covenant Retirement, “one of the nation’s largest not-for-profit retirement housing organizations” with 16 locations nationwide, according to the company. It also has a retirement facility at 9153 Yarrow St. in Westminster. That retirement community will not be impacted, nor will the agencies operating in St. Charles, Ill. and Turlock, Calif.
