The National Weather Service in Boulder issued a severe thunderstorm watch Friday afternoon for Denver and the Eastern Plains.
The watch went into effect at 1 p.m. and will last until 10 p.m.
The watch is for Boulder, Adams, Jefferson, Denver and Arapahoe counties in the metro area. It also is in force for Elbert, El Paso, Larimer, Lincoln, Morgan, Washington and Weld counties.
Damaging winds, thunderstorms and large hail can be expected, according to the watch.
There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms until 9 p.m. in the Denver area, according to the NWS.
“It won’t be as hot Friday as it has been the rest of this week,” said Kyle Fredin, meteorologist for the NWS. Friday’s high in Denver is expected to be 83 degrees.
“Temperatures will be well below the average for this time of the year,” Fredin said.
Some storms could be severe like a storm that hit near Peterson Air Force Base on Thursday afternoon, he said.
“Colorado Springs got hammered yesterday,” Fredin said.
