A 44-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash in Aurora, and police are looking for the driver of a pickup truck who allegedly turned in front of the motorcycle.

The incident happened at about 6:45 p.m. Friday at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Jasper Street, according to Aurora police.

The driver of the motorcycle, Joseph Alfredo Chavez, was eastbound on Colfax when a late-model, forest green Ford Ranger with a matching bed topper made a left turn from southbound Jasper onto Colfax “in front of the motorcycle,” police said.

“Chavez attempted to brake but lost control and went down onto the pavement, flipping over,” police said.

The driver of the truck did not stop.

Chavez, who was not wearing a helmet, suffered severe head injuries. He was taken to the University of Colorado Hospital in Aurora, where he died Monday night.

An investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or who recognizes the green Ford Ranger is asked to call police at 303-739-6202.

The crash is the 12th traffic-related fatality in Aurora this year, police said.
