NFL reporter Cameron Wolfe analyzes how Broncos quarterbacks Trevor Siemian, Mark Sanchez and Paxton Lynch played in the second preseason game Saturday night.
Siemian — The second-year quarterback led the first-team offense on a nearly perfect opening touchdown drive, but then it all went downhill. A poorly thrown ball ended Siemian’s second drive in a pick-six to 49ers safety Eric Reid. Siemian’s third drive ended in a punt.
“There’s some positives to take away, but can’t turn the ball over,” Siemian said.
Sanchez — Turnovers weren’t exclusive to Siemian. Sanchez played four drives — the opening, his best, led to a field goal, the next two drives ended in bad sack fumbles and the final was a three-and-out.
“There’s no excuse for me,” Sanchez said. “Poor play. You can’t put the team in that situation.”
Lynch — The rookie out of Memphis had a solid performance overall against the 49ers’ third-team defense. He threw the Broncos’ lone two touchdown passes and consistently showed off his improvisation skills by escaping pressure. He took three sacks and had a final drive interception on an overthrow forcing it down the field.
On if he thinks he’s in the starting quarterback conversation, Lynch said, “I always believed I was.”
