A 79-year-old California man was killed Sunday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in northwest Colorado.

James Chance, of Ballico, Calif., died at the scene of the wreck on U.S. 40 near the town of Maybell.

The Colorado State Patrol says Chance was the passenger in a 2011 Ford F-250 pickup truck that drifted off the roadway, struck several trees and rolled over.

The driver, 78-year-old Judith Chance, also of Ballico, sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries. She was taken to Memorial Hospital in Craig.

The State Patrol says both were wearing seat belts.

“Neither drug nor alcohol impairment are considered to be contributing factors,” the State Patrol said. “The cause of the crash is still under investigation.”
