In his first game back from a health scare, Gary Kubiak helped the Broncos to a 27-9 victory and earned his first win over the team he previously coached, from 2006-13.

After the game, cornerback Aqib Talib — as only he can — presented Kubiak with the game ball.

“Hey, hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up, hold up,” Talib yelled in the locker room following Kubiak’s post-game speech to his players. “The mother******** leader back! Big win, man. Kubes’ first win against the Texans, baby. Welcome back, coach.”

The honor prompted a roar of cheers from players and coaches.

“Here’s my speech: ‘I’ll take it,'” Kubiak responded.

Kubiak was later asked about the honor in his address to reporters.

“Coaches get game balls when players play well,” he said. “Our players played really well tonight. I’m proud of them because I asked them to do some things for me over the course of the last 10, 11 days and kind of regroup ourselves a little bit. You have to do that in this league sometimes and they did. They responded. You could tell last night that they were locked in and ready to play. Like I said, I liked the consistency of how we played.”
