An Adams County sheriff’s deputy responding to a disturbance call fought, tased and then fatally shot a suspect he encountered in a hallway Tuesday night, authorities say.

The deputy suffered a head injury and was taken to a hospital for medical treatment, according to a news release by Sgt. Jim Morgen, sheriff’s office spokesman.

The deputy was called to the Pinetree Village Apartments at 7520 Broadway about some type of disturbance.

When the deputy arrived he encountered the suspect in the hallway, Morgen said.

The suspect, whose name has not been released, became aggressive despite the deputy’s attempts to calm him down by speaking to him.

A fight ensued. The deputy discharged his Taser.

Eventually he pulled out his gun and shot the suspect, who was taken to a hospital where he died of his injuries.

The Adams County Critical Incident Team has been called in to do the investigation.

The deputy will be placed on administrative leave with pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
