A youth taken to a hospital from the Mount View Youth Services Center has died. It’s the second suicide at the state-run center this summer.

Staff members found the youth Sunday during a room check, provided immediate aid and called emergency responders, according to a Colorado Department of Human Services news release.

The Division of Youth Services was notified Tuesday that the youth had died. Internal and external investigations into the incident are ongoing.

In June, a 20-year-old committed suicide at the center in Lakewood. Prior to the June incident, there had not been a suicide at a Division of Youth Services facility since February 2001.

“We are devastated by this event, and we offer our deepest condolences to the youth’s family,” said Anders Jacobson, director of the division, in a news release. “All of our direct care staff are trained and recertified each year in suicide prevention, and we are constantly evaluating and modifying our youth services centers to make sure they are safe for youth and staff. We are committed to working to find solutions and ensure that Division of Youth Services facilities remain safe for the youth in our care.”

The facility houses males and females, ages 10 to 20.
