As snow falls in the Colorado Rockies, a steady pitter patter of rain can be heard across the Denver metro area, where between a trace to 2 inches of rain could accumulate Thursday.

“Chance of rain is 100 percent,” declares the National Weather Service in Boulder.

The rain will begin to diminish around 10 a.m. but is expected through the afternoon in Denver. The high temperature will be around 55 degrees. Winds could gust up to 20 mph.

As much as 5 inches of snow is expected above 9,500 feet in the mountains, the NWS says. Slushy and snowy roads are possible Thursday morning over mountain passes.

It will be warmer and dryer on Friday but there’s still a 10 percent chance of rain in the afternoon and evening. The temperature will peak around 65 degrees.

Temperatures will be in the lower 70s through the weekend. There’s a 20 percent chance of rain Saturday afternoon and evening but Sunday should be sunny through the Denver Broncos game with the Oakland Raiders.

It will remain sunny on Monday, with a high temperature around 67 degrees, the NWS says.

Afternoon thunderstorms and rain is possible on Tuesday, when the high temperature will be around 70. The high on Wednesday will be about 73 degrees, forecasters say.
