The body found in an elevator shaft in a Denver apartment complex was an 82-year-old man who had been reported missing July 5, officials said.

Isaak Komisarchik’s body was discovered in an elevator shaft inside a building in the 10000 block of East Harvard Avenue, according to Steven Castro, spokesman for the Denver Medical Examiner’s Office.

Komisarchik was pronounced dead at the scene, Castro said. The cause of death is pending.

The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System posted a missing person’s bulletin on Komisarchik at 2:30 p.m. on July 5, indicating that he may have been in the elevator shaft for nearly a month. Komisarchik was reported missing from an area in the 9900 block of East Yale Ave.

Tenants of the Woodstream Village apartments had reported smelling a foul odor in the building where the body was discovered.

The building manager reported the body to the Denver Fire Department Monday morning, Capt. Greg Pixley, a fire department spokesman, said.
