Crews are fighting a fire, estimated at 100 acres, in Poudre Canyon northwest of Fort Collins this afternoon.

The blaze is burning the Hewlett Gulch Trail in the Roosevelt National Forest, according to the U.S. Forest Service.

Though there are homes in the area, none are immediately threatened as of mid-afternoon, according to the Forest Service.

About 40 firefighters from the U.S. Forest Service, Larimer County Emergency Services and local departments are trying to contain the fire, and a single-engine air tanker will be assisting later this afternoon, according to the Forest Service.

Authorities have not identified a cause of the fire yet.

Smoke is visible from Fort Collins.

The Hewlett Gulch Trail and the Greyrock Trail are both closed, and the Forest Service has asked the public to avoid the area, because of fire-fighting operations and traffic.

This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
