A flood watch is posted Wednesday for wide areas of Colorado, including the  Waldo Canyon Fire zone outside Colorado Springs.

Flash flooding is possible in the fire’s “burn scar region,” the National Weather Service warns, as a cold front moves across Teller and El Paso counties Wednesday afternoon and evening.

Moist, unstable air will move over the region, according to the weather service forecast, and thunderstorms are likely.

“It will not take much rainfall to cause significant flash flooding,” the weather service reports. Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City could see “significant” flash flooding.

The flash flood watch starts this afternoon and runs through the evening. It covers a wide area east and west of the I-25 corridor from Trinidad to north of Colorado Springs. A flash flood watch has also been posted for the extreme Eastern Plains of central Colorado.
