SAN DIEGO — In the wake of Friday’s theater shootings in Aurora, the Rockies wore black wrist bands against the Padres to honor those affected by the tragedy that claimed 12 lives.

“The Colorado Rockies are deeply saddened by the horrific act of senseless violence that took place in our community early this morning,” the Rockies said in a statement. “All Coloradans feel the pain and sorrow that has come with this tragedy. As part of the Colorado community, the Rockies share this pain with everyone involved. Our hearts go out to the victims and their families and friends, who will all be in our thoughts and prayers during this trying time.”

A moment of silence was held prior to tonight’s first pitch in San Diego. The Rockies also hung a black jersey in the dugout, with “We Remember 7-20” to symbolize the victims and their families and “to represent the Colorado community in this time of mourning.”

A lone gunmen, identified as 24-year-old James Eagan Holmes, opened fire during the Batman premier early Friday morning, killing 12 people and injuring 58 in the Century 16 complex at the Aurora Town Center.
