LONDON  —Matt Emmons, the Colorado Springs shooter who blew gold medals in the last two Olympics on his last shot, lost a silver medal on his last shot here Monday.

Emmons shot a 7.6, his only score under 9.9 in the final round, to finish in third place in the 50-meter rifle 3-position. He finished with 1,271.3 points, just behind South Korea’s Kim Jonghyun who shot a 10.4 on his last shot and finished with 1272.5.

Italy’s Niccolo Camriani won the gold with 1278.5.

Emmons had climbed froma tie for third early in the standing competition and worked his way into a solid second place with 10.7, 10.6 and 10.5 in his seventh, eighth and ninth shots.

He led Kim by 1.6 entering the final shot but his 7.6, the only score under 8.8 among the eight finalists in the final round, dropped him to bronze.

Emmons won gold in the small bore rifle prone in Athens in 2004 but in 3 position competition, he fired at the wrong target in Athens to finish eighth and fired too soon in Beijing and finished fourth.
