Ozone will add to the discomfort of another hot day Tuesday.

The Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment has issued an ozone action day alert for the Front Range Urban Corridor that will remain in effect until at least 4 p.m.

Oh! Today’s high temperature is expected to hit 97 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Boulder.

Abundant sunshine, easterly winds and marginal atmospheric mixing will result in ozone concentrations in the moderate to unhealthy range for sensitive groups .

Active children and adults, and people with lung disease, such as asthma, should reduce prolonged or heavy outdoor exertion from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. in those locations on Tuesday, the health department warns.

Elevated ozone concentrations are most likely for locations west of the I-25 corridor from the west suburbs of Denver northward through Boulder to around Loveland.

These elevated concentrations are possible as far west as the eastern slope of the Continental Divide.
