A Denver jury returned a $1 million judgment Thursday against an 89-year-old driver in a fatal hit-and-run case.
It was the second time in two weeks that a local jury has awarded at least $1 million in a hit-and-run suit.
A criminal case against Marshall Smith is ongoing in the Jan. 9 hit-and-run incident which killed Leanna Hund, 63, a pedestrian.
On Thursday, a jury in a wrongful death civil suit found Smith at fault in the case, said Titus Peterson, a Denver attorney who represented Hund’s estate.
The jury awarded Hund’s estate $60,000 in economic damage, $340,000 for pain and suffering and $600,000 in punitive damages.
Last week, a Denver jury awarded a family a $2.5 million civil verdict after finding fault with a driver in another fatal hit-and-run case.
