Face it, the drive-through line at the Chick-fil-A is just too long.

So today, skip the corporate fast food and favor the little neighborhood restaurant instead. Three reasons:

It’ll be different.

It’ll be local.

It’ll be better.

Sam Taylor’s Bar-B-Q has been a Denver (er, Glendale) staple for 13 years now, selling some of the most satisfying ribs and pulled-pork sandwiches to some of Denver’s most discriminating ‘cue-heads.

The problem, for Tech Center workers and other south-side residents has been one of distance: A 60-minute chow break just doesn’t allow for a trip across town. No matter how good the smoked brisket may be.

Problem solved. Sam Taylor’s now has a small storefront outpost on South Yosemite Street, which means folks stationed south of I-225 can score a sandwich with fixin’s (cole slaw, beans and so forth) and a drink for under $10, then eat it in the store or take it to the park for a picnic.

Sam Taylor’s rich, flavorful Mississippi-style barbecue (which sits somewhere between East Texas and Memphis, meaning chefs take equal pride in pork and beef dishes) makes for a soul-satisfying lunch, best followed by a nap (or cubicle- based Internet surfing, whichever your job allows).

Come a little bit on the late side, say 1 p.m., to avoid the early lunch rush.

Even better, call ahead and ask about catering; a spread of Sam Taylor’s Bar-B-Q on the conference table all but guarantees a successful client meeting.
