The University of Colorado announced on Monday night that because of the overwhelming output of support and interest in attending memorial services for longtime Colorado sports personality Irv Brown, a public event has been set for noon Saturday at the 1st Bank Center in Broomfield.

Fan of Brown, who coached high school and college sports, became an official and entertained thousands upon thousands of fans over the radio for almost 40 years, are encouraged to attend the memorial at the arena. It begins at noon.

The celebration of Brown’s life will take on a bit of game day atmosphere, according to a press release sent by CU. Concession stands will be open with stadium food for sale and a program in which local sports celebrities will tell some of their favorite memories of Irv, including his longtime radio partner Joe Williams and two of his former athletes who played a combined 26 seasons in the major leagues, John Stearns and Jay Howell. Dave Logan will emcee the event which will also feature video and photo presentations along with some surprise celebrity speakers.
