CHELMSFORD — A 21-year-old Lowell man has died as a result of injuries suffered in a Tuesday evening crash in Chelmsford involving his motorcycle and an SUV, according to the Middlesex District Attorneys Office.

Gerald Barnes II died as a result of injuries suffered in the crash at Acton Road and High Street in Chelmsford about 7:20 p.m., according to a press release.

Chelmsford police said via a spokesman that a Honda CBR 600 was heading west on High Street when it collided with a 2010 Mazda SUV that was being driven north on Acton Road by a 41-year-old Chelmsford man. Police initially did not release either driver’s name.

The press release announcing Barnes name did not identify the other driver, and no additional information is being released as of Wednesday, according to the release.

An investigation into the crash is being conducted by Chelmsford police, the District Attorney’s office, and the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section.

No charges have been filed pending completion of that investigation.
