Former Broncos right tackle Tony Jones has passed away, the team announced Friday. Jones was 54.

Jones was a mainstay on the Broncos’ first two Super Bowl champion teams and started all 60 regular-season games for Denver from 1997-2000.

“Terribly sad news today,” former teammate Ed McCaffrey said via Twitter. “Tony was a great teammate and wonderful man.”

Jones attended Western Carolina and started his professional career with the Cleveland Browns in 1988. He played nine years for the Browns/Baltimore franchise, starting 99 of 109 games. He started all 16 games in six consecutive seasons (1990-95).

The Ravens traded Jones to the Broncos in 1997 for a second-round pick. Over 13 seasons, Jones started 174 games.

Jones was named to the Pro Bowl after the ’98 season and was named to the Broncos’ Top 100 team in 2019.

“We lost a great man,” former teammate Rod Smith said on Instagram.
