LOWELL — A Lowell man wanted for allegedly stabbing a friend in June was picked up by police on a warrant for armed assault with intent to murder Friday night.

Melvin Mass-Rosario, 30, of 10 Varney St., is accused of stabbing a 52-year-old man several times in the back during a fight at 348 Walker St. on June 27, according to Lowell police Capt. Paul Laferriere.

The victim has since fully recovered from the wounds, the captain added.

The suspect’s alleged identity was not immediately known by police until recently, according to Laferriere. Mass-Rosario was arrested by Lowell officers at around 9:30 p.m. Friday.

He is being held by police pending his arraignment in Lowell District Court on Monday.
