Two high-ranking Denver Public Works employees were suspended this week amid an investigation, city officials said Friday.

Kelly Duffy, director of streets maintenance for Denver Public Works, and Doug Legg, a manager for the department, were placed on investigatory leave at about 3:30 p.m. on Thursday, according to a city spokesperson.

Duffy has worked for the city for 21 years and makes about $148,000; Legg has worked for the city for 19 years and makes about $109,000, according to the city’s human resources office.

City officials have not disclosed the reason for the investigation. Neither Duffy nor Legg immediately responded to requests for comment.

“This is personnel matter, not a criminal matter,” human resources spokesperson Diane Vertovec said in an email.

The city can’t comment further because there’s an open investigation, she said. An outside firm is handling it, according to Ryan Luby of the city attorney’s office.

The action comes just days before Denver’s city election, in which Mayor Michael Hancock is seeking a third term.
