Denver PrideFest is being celebrated this weekend, and Gov. Jared Polis got into the swing of things Friday, jumping for joy beneath a gay pride flag on display at the Colorado State Capitol.

Polis is the first openly gay man to be elected governor in the United States. He’s the second openly LGBTQ person elected governor, after Gov. Kate Brown of Oregon.

On Facebook Polis said: “The Pride Flag is on display this weekend at our Colorado State Capitol. I’m so proud to be the governor of a state that celebrates diversity and love. The rainbow is a symbol that Colorado is a welcoming place where individuality is respected and everyone is free to be their true selves. Happy Pride!”

Thousands of people are expected in downtown Denver this weekend to take part in rainbow-filled celebration.

On Sunday, East Colfax Avenue from Franklin to Lincoln streets will close to traffic at 9 a.m., making way for the Coors Light Denver Pride Parade.
