“Tasting” marijuana is legit

Re: “Colorado will allow marijuana delivery and tasting rooms soon,” May 30 news story

I’ve read and heard some opinions on marijuana tasting rooms, and I’ve been troubled by the misinformation and double standards compared with alcohol that I’ve encountered.

First of all, I am a lightweight when it comes to alcohol, so I am always at an impaired driving level after a wine flight. In other words, the argument that a cannabis taste must impair the user while a wine flight will not does not hold weight. I know plenty of lightweights like myself who know we have to hang out for at least an hour after a wine or beer tasting.

Second of all, marijuana has a great deal of variety as far as taste, bouquet and smoke quality goes. Marijuana is even more varied in the effects and identity of different plants than varieties of alcohol.
Finally, marijuana has differences between plants as far as THC and CBD content go. By choosing milder plants, by taking “sips” of smoke, and, perhaps, by not inhaling the smoke but letting it rest upon the tongue (like spitting the wine out in Napa), it is quite possible for cannabis connoisseurs to assess the flavors and basic attributes of different strains of marijuana.

My advice is to avoid driving whenever you’re out “tasting” any mind-altering substance!
